Events Manager — Part-Time

YELO APLE
Location: 1198 N High Street, Columbus, Ohio
Position: Part-Time
Pay: $17–$20/hour, based on experience

About YELO APLE

YELO APLE is a growing plant shop in Columbus, Ohio, offering indoor plants, plant supplies, workshops, community experiences, and special events.

We're looking for a highly organized, creative, dependable person to take ownership of our events and help us continue growing this side of the business.

This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys bringing ideas to life, working with people, staying organized, and figuring out the details that make an event successful.

Our events can take many forms. Some may happen inside our store, while others may take us to another location. We also partner with other businesses and brands that may want to host a pop-up inside our store.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys variety and doesn't want to sit behind a desk all day. You'll be communicating with people, planning logistics, solving problems, helping with setup and breakdown, and making sure the details are handled from beginning to end.

What You'll Do

Workshops

Help plan and coordinate plant workshops hosted at YELO APLE and at outside locations.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Researching and helping develop new workshop ideas

  • Coordinating workshop dates, times, locations, and details

  • Communicating with instructors, partners, and vendors

  • Helping determine what supplies and materials are needed

  • Coordinating registrations and attendee information

  • Helping prepare the store or outside venue for workshops

  • Assisting with setup and breakdown

  • Being present during workshops when needed

  • Helping ensure guests have a positive experience

  • Following up after workshops and identifying ways to improve future events

  • Keeping track of upcoming workshops, deadlines, and details

Pop-Ups & Business Partnerships

Help develop and coordinate pop-up opportunities both for YELO APLE and for businesses or brands that want to participate at our store.

This may include:

  • Researching local businesses, brands, makers, and organizations that could be a good fit

  • Reaching out to potential partners

  • Responding to businesses interested in popping up at YELO APLE

  • Coordinating dates, times, space, and event details

  • Communicating expectations and logistics with participating businesses

  • Helping businesses understand what they need to bring or provide

  • Coordinating setup and breakdown

  • Helping promote upcoming pop-ups

  • Being present during events when needed

  • Building relationships with businesses and potential partners

  • Looking for new opportunities for YELO APLE to participate in events throughout Columbus

Event Planning & Coordination

You'll help take events from an initial idea to a completed event.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Creating event timelines and checklists

  • Tracking deadlines and important details

  • Coordinating multiple people and moving pieces

  • Communicating with vendors, partners, instructors, and venues

  • Researching locations, services, vendors, and event opportunities

  • Helping with event budgets and basic expense tracking

  • Making sure supplies and materials are ready

  • Coordinating transportation of plants, supplies, and merchandise when necessary

  • Helping with setup and breakdown

  • Identifying potential problems before they happen

  • Troubleshooting issues during events

  • Keeping ownership informed about important decisions, problems, and updates

  • Following up on outstanding items so things don't fall through the cracks

Community & Event Development

We're looking for someone who doesn't simply wait for us to tell them what event to plan.

Part of this position is looking for opportunities.

You may be asked to:

  • Research upcoming local events and markets

  • Identify organizations or businesses we could partner with

  • Come up with workshop ideas

  • Research trends in events and experiences

  • Identify potential instructors or collaborators

  • Reach out to potential partners

  • Suggest new types of events we could offer

  • Help develop recurring events or partnerships

  • Look for ways to bring new customers into the store through events

We want someone who can say:

"I found this business/event/opportunity and I think YELO APLE should look into it."

Not simply:

"What event do you want me to plan?"

Marketing & Promotion

You'll work alongside our team to help make sure events are communicated and promoted effectively.

Depending on the event, this may include:

  • Helping create event descriptions

  • Providing information for social media posts

  • Helping develop promotional ideas

  • Coordinating event information with our social media team

  • Helping gather photos and content during events

  • Communicating important event details to attendees

  • Helping promote upcoming workshops and pop-ups

  • Tracking registrations and attendance

Experience with social media, Canva, photography, video, or content creation is a plus but is not required.

Store Events

Some events will take place directly inside YELO APLE.

You may be responsible for helping:

  • Prepare the store before an event

  • Arrange tables, plants, merchandise, and supplies

  • Coordinate with participating businesses or instructors

  • Welcome attendees and guests

  • Help the event run smoothly

  • Answer questions

  • Assist with sales when appropriate

  • Keep the space organized during the event

  • Clean and reset the store afterward

Outside Events

Some events will take place away from our store.

Depending on the event, responsibilities may include:

  • Helping coordinate logistics with the host location

  • Preparing plants and merchandise

  • Loading and transporting event materials

  • Setting up displays

  • Helping create an attractive booth or event space

  • Processing sales

  • Engaging with customers

  • Coordinating with other team members

  • Breaking down the event afterward

  • Returning inventory and supplies to the store

  • Making sure nothing is left behind

What We're Looking For

The right person is:

  • Extremely organized and detail-oriented

  • Reliable and dependable

  • A strong communicator

  • Comfortable communicating with businesses and professionals

  • Proactive and self-motivated

  • Comfortable working independently

  • Good at following through

  • Comfortable managing multiple moving pieces

  • Resourceful and good at solving problems

  • Comfortable making decisions and knowing when to ask for help

  • Friendly and professional

  • Comfortable interacting with customers and event attendees

  • Able to stay calm when plans change

  • Comfortable working in a fast-moving small-business environment

  • Excited about events, community, plants, and creating experiences for people

You don't need to know everything about event planning on day one. We're much more interested in someone who is organized, capable, curious, dependable, and willing to learn.

Experience

Previous experience in any of the following is helpful:

  • Event planning or coordination

  • Event production

  • Hospitality

  • Retail

  • Customer service

  • Marketing

  • Community events

  • Weddings or private events

  • Vendor markets

  • Pop-ups

  • Brand partnerships

  • Project coordination

  • Social media

  • Sales

  • Small business

However, relevant experience isn't limited to these areas.

If you've successfully organized something, coordinated people, managed projects, planned events, or taken an idea from concept to completion, we'd love to hear about it.

The Personality We're Looking For

This role is a great fit for someone who:

  • Loves making things happen

  • Naturally notices details other people overlook

  • Enjoys organizing

  • Doesn't need to be micromanaged

  • Takes ownership

  • Follows up without being reminded

  • Can communicate professionally with different types of people

  • Enjoys meeting new people

  • Can think ahead

  • Doesn't panic when something goes wrong

  • Is comfortable saying, "I'll figure it out."

  • Enjoys being busy and having variety

  • Gets excited about new ideas and opportunities

This isn't a position where you'll receive a checklist every morning and spend the day completing assigned tasks.

We need someone who can take an idea and help turn it into something real.

Schedule

This is a part-time position.

Hours and scheduling will vary based on upcoming workshops, pop-ups, events, and business needs.

Some event work may take place during evenings or weekends, depending on the event schedule.

Flexibility is important, particularly around event days.

The position is primarily based at:

1198 N High Street
Columbus, Ohio

Some work will take place at outside event locations throughout the Columbus area.

What Makes This Role Different

This isn't a traditional office events position.

You'll be involved in the actual experience.

One week you might be researching a potential workshop instructor. The next, you could be coordinating a brand pop-up at the store. Another week, you might be helping us prepare plants and merchandise for an event across Columbus.

You'll have the opportunity to help shape what events look like at YELO APLE rather than simply executing someone else's predetermined plans.

As the business and events program grow, there is potential for this role to grow in responsibility as well.

To Apply

Please tell us a little about yourself and your experience.

We'd especially like to know:

  1. Why are you interested in working with YELO APLE and this events position?

  2. What experience do you have planning, coordinating, or organizing events, projects, or other activities?

  3. Tell us about a time you had to coordinate multiple people, deadlines, or moving pieces. How did you keep everything organized?

  4. Tell us about a time something went wrong during something you were organizing. What did you do?

  5. If you were responsible for finding new workshop or pop-up opportunities for YELO APLE, where would you start?

  6. What do you think makes a great workshop or pop-up experience for customers and participating businesses?

  7. What is your current availability, including evenings and weekends?

  8. Do you have reliable transportation?

  9. Is there anything else you'd like us to know about you?

We're much more interested in honest, specific answers and real examples than a perfect résumé.

If you're someone who loves organizing, meeting people, solving problems, and turning ideas into experiences, we'd love to hear from you.
